Ich finde keine Zeit zum Bloggen!

Translation: I cannot find time to blog! So Mr Wall I hope you appreciate this, even ever so slightly. So lately I have been learning some light German, partly because I am going on a vacation there nest year, and when I travel I like to know the language, also my family is VERY German, and also it is fun! Today I was watching Monday's episode of Big Bang Theory, and Sheldon said a German word '' Weltschmertz '' meaning the depression that occurs when comparing the world as it is to a hypothetical ideal world. It also reminded me of what Linnea said on Monday, which was essentially the same thing, just without the German word. And I remember that, but because I am a terrible person I cannot remember the topic of conversation when she compared whatever we were talking about to that. Oopsies! But I think it is very true. Can one ever truly be happy with their life when their expectation of life is unrealstic? But on the other hand, should one not hope for a better life and strive for such (in a healthy manner)? Just some food for thought. My brain has run out of thoughts for now.

Shouting Fire

So I recently watched a really good documentary called Shouting Fire: Stories from the Edge of Free Speech. It is all about free speech and it is really well done. There was one story that really struck me all about an arabic school in New York. New York public school system has many schools for languages for certain culture ie. Chinese, Japanese, etc. The school system had started to line up the opening of an Arabic school, they hired a female American-Arabic principal and the school was almost set to launch, some false facts were going around within the public that the school would not just be practicing the arabic language, but Muslim religion. This was not the case, but becasue of all the allegations, the school board postponed the opening and hired a new, white principle who cannot even speak arabic to communicate with new families to the country. Is this right? Another story was one of a pride day at a high school. The day was to support gays in their school. One teen boy wore a shirt with tape on it and written sharpie was a bible verse talking about how man and woman should be together, and on the other side of his shirt said that being gay was wrong. You may think, oh that is terrible of fim, especially no a pride day, but think, is he not just excerising his right to free speech? If you are going to support free speech, it must be from both sides even if you do not agree, or not at all.

You too can prevent the spread of swine flu!

So I basically think the whole swine flu thing has been blown wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out of proportion. I do think we should do what we can to prevent the spread of it, but that is like any flu or illness. I think as long as you keep healthy with lots of water and eat well and what not, you will be alright, you might get it but there is a chance anyone could. Dying from it is not common. I personally will not be getting the vaccination, I don't know if it is effective enough nor if I want a nice bruised arm thank you. But that is just my opinion and I am sticking to it, for now at least.

language fail

This made me laugh, language fail. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNQLmHKlmiE

I don't like to blog

So I am doing this late at night so I doubt it will make much sense, I will probably read it in a day or so and realize I am talking jibberish. I think all this language buisness is a complicated deal. Especially perception of language and people would percieve what you said. Different components to language are crucial like body language and tone, because without those, what you have said may play a miniscule role of what was percieved. What qualifies as a language? Just because we made up blorsh, does that make it an actual word? I feel that it is really a matter of opinion I suppose.
